Anti-Communists worried about ASNOM

Erol Rizaov

The conflict between ignorance and emotions among Macedonian patriots is a garden of Eden for harvesting poisonous fruits. Today’s big concern is the fate of the decisions of ASNOM, especially in the part that is unfeasible. Yesterday’s creators of the marginalization of the anti-fascist struggle and the PLW and the well-known anti-communists are now bigger fighters than the direct participants of ASNOM and the founders of Federal Macedonia, the first Macedonian state.

What is really impressing is the fierceness in defending the historical document from the ASNOM session that calls for uniting with the Macedonians from Bulgaria and Greece. An illusion that still clouds the mind after 74 years, but not the minds of the organizers of this propaganda not to make the constitutional changes because they know the realistic prospects for achieving such a justified aspiration of the Macedonian people in the years of the Second World War crowned by the decisions of the ASNOM, but to those who still believe in such lies and obvious manipulations. To maintain a constitutional commitment to unify Macedonia with parts of Bulgaria and Greece today is like that unreasonable tradition when one member of a British family was obliged to look at La Manche in case Napoleon shows up with his fleet to attack England. If this was a tourist attraction in Britain until recently, to talk about constitutional decisions today in 2018 that require the unification of Macedonia into ethnic borders is a suicidal act even if we are a world power, not to mention a small and poor country that is looking for its place in a democratic Europe. If in 1944, after five years of war, it was quite understandable to seek the unification of Macedonia within the ethnic borders, today it is the greatest foolishness that serves only as a mask and as another stupid attempt to obstruct the Agreement with Greece and not get a green light by accepting the constitutional changes.

In fact, with VMRO DPMNE’s proposal for an emergency amnesty law for all participants in the bloodshed in parliament on April 27 last year, without ranking the fair and individually the burden of responsibility in the court procedure of the organizers of the coup attempt and the declaring of a state of emergency, as well as the perpetrators of violent crimes with attempted killings and those that were less guilty, is in fact a clear recognition that the constitutional amendments are not in question, neither the Agreement with Greece nor the Euro-Atlantic integrations, but the avoidance of responsibility for violent crimes the organizers of the events of 27 April, for interfering with justice and other crimes for which judicial proceedings and investigations are already being conducted.
There are hundreds of evidence about the behavior of the VMRO members towards ASNOM, PLW and in general to the history of Macedonia. The denial of the Slavic origin of Macedonian people, the problematization of the Macedonian language as one of the Slavic languages of the Indo-European group, the lustration of the founders of the Macedonian state and culture and their proclamation of traitors and enemies, insults the biggest Macedonian activists such as Blaze Koneski, Kosta Racin, Slavko Janevski and hundreds of other humiliated fighters and people’s heroes from the PLW by deleting their names from memorial marks and destroying their monuments are actually the biggest blows on the history of Macedonia. Today these people, instead of being hated and ignored by the public, are presented falsely as proponents of the protection of ASNOM and the contemporary history of Macedonia. And, it is still accepted by part of the population that could be somewhat understood. But when ASNOM serves politicians and academic citizens, and university professors as a shield in party campaigns for power, spreading hatred and divisions, then these are terrible crimes against their own citizens and against the future of Macedonia.

The supporters of constitutional changes in Parliament and the government need to be careful not to run into the temptation of constitutional changes that come out of the framework of the signed and ratified Agreement with Greece, which may be a good justification for not being ratified in the Greek parliament. This would be fatal in this phase of achieving the strategic goals of Macedonia.

As for the mention of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, interethnic tensions are unnecessarily raised because all of its provisions are embedded in the Constitution. If the Ohrid Agreement, which was taken in 2001 as a signing of a capitulation, is now rewritten from today’s 17-year distance, just like the Prespa Agreement is now, will confirm that I was right on the first anniversary of its signing that it is needed more to the Macedonians than the Albanians. This is the only document signed by the Macedonian and Albanian leaders of the political parties with a guarantee of the UN for the indivisibility of the territory of Macedonia. Accordingly, it would be a good thing to have another guarantee in the Constitution for the preservation of the territorial integrity of the state. Of course, this cannot be as strong as the security of Macedonia from the point of view of economic and democratic development and membership in NATO and the EU. The agreement with Greece is a prerequisite for achieving these top priorities for the future of Macedonia. The agreement will be implemented because it is acceptable to both sides and is a legally justified compromise.
