Stoltenberg in Belgrade: Excellent relationship with Serbia, we support the dialogue

NATO strongly supports the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and all efforts that will result in reducing of tensions and solving problems, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said.

He arrived in Belgrade yesterday and in an interview with Pink TV, stressed that NATO had excellent dialogue with Serbia and respects the decision not to be part of the Alliance.

– We strongly support the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as all efforts that will result in a reduction of tensions and will resolve disagreements. We need a political solution. It is a dialogue that is closely followed by the EU, and NATO was part of an initiative that contributed to the dialogue. We continue to follow the dialogue and support it, said Stoltenberg.

He pointed out that Serbia “clearly said” that the goal was not to become a NATO member.

– We respect the decision of the country whether it wants to join NATO or not. We have an excellent relationship with Serbia and we respect the its decision not to join NATO and just be a partner instead. It is good for Serbia, it is good for NATO, Stoltenberg said.
