Zaev on Ivanov’s statement: We politicians should be helping the citizens

The citizens are those who will make their decision by voting in a referendum. Myself, as Prime Minister, and Mr. Gjorge Ivanov, as President, should be helping the citizens rather than obstructing them, Zoran Zaev said Tuesday.

Answering a journalist question about a statement issued by President Ivanov’s office regarding the name negotiations with remarks about the way the process had been conducted by him, Zaev said he stood by his positions and principles.

“Us, politicians, should serve the citizens and should open collaborations, we should advance Macedonia in all of its perspectives… We should never forget, we are elected by the citizens, they put us in office, they replace us. Since this is a historic matter, we have prioritized the name referendum,” stated Zaev.

He reiterated that he hoped the 25-year long dispute could be solved thus paving a way for EU and NATO accession.

PM Zaev called for all political stakeholders to be cautious and to help the citizens exercise their democratic right of making decisions.
