Zaev: Let’s not allow for politics of division to resurrect

“Our intention is to remember but to never allow for politics of division and conflict to resurrect,” PM Zaev said Monday.

Tolerance is vital for establishing democratic relations between diverse social groups and a starting point for putting an end to injustice, hatred, fights in schools, streets or stadiums, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said.
Zaev was speaking at the Open Day for civil society organizations to present proposals for drafting a national strategy on the development of one society and interculturalism concept.

The PM invited representatives of NGOs to contribute to drafting the national strategy, which inter alia aims to nurture Macedonia’s reputation as a society of Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Roma, Vlachs, Bosniaks and others.

Justice Minister Renata Deskoska said that hate crimes were incorporated in the amendments to the Criminal Code and had already entered a parliament procedure. The hate crime is defined as prejudice-motivated crime which occurs when a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her membership in a certain social group or race, said Justice Minister Deskoska.
