Zaev: I wish for a consensual presidential candidate

I wish we had a consensual presidential candidate, who will serve as the father of the nation and we would all rally around this candidate, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev to reporters signing a contract for the construction of the photovoltaic power plant Oslomej in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

“We haven’t opened yet a process to pick a candidate for the upcoming presidential election, because a serious process is under way to conclude the constitutional revision procedure in Parliament,” Zaev said answering journalist questions at a press conference.

He said he was glad that there were candidates. “But, we are yet to see which one of them are favored by the citizens.”

“I wish we had a consensual candidate endorsed by all. A person who will be the father of the nation and we would all rally around this person. I hope a candidate will be chosen that it will be our honor to endorse him or her as future president of the Republic of Macedonia,” Zaev noted.

Zaev said he expected the ruling coalition to win the upcoming presidential election. However, Zaev added, the personality of the candidate will be decisive for the citizens when making their decision.

“We’ll try to fund the best candidate. We’ll try to find the candidate that will be entirely acceptable for the citizens of Macedonia,” said PM Zaev.
