Xhaferi – Yunhu: China and North Macedonia are traditional friendly countries


North Macedonia’s Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi during his official visit to People’s Republic of China met Monday with Dong Yunhu, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Committee in Shanghai.

Parliament delegation also includes Vice Speaker Goran Misovski, coordinators of the parliamentary groups of SDSM Jovan Mitreski, of DUI Ejup Alimi, of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Micevski, President of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, Vladanka Avirovic and Parliament’s Secretary General Cvetanka Ivanova.

The main functions of the CPPCC are to conduct political consultation, exercise democratic supervision and participate in the discussion and the handling of state affairs. Political consultation covers major principles and policies proposed by the central and local governments and matters of importance concerning political, economic, cultural and social affairs.

China and North Macedonia are traditional friendly countries. In recent years, high-level exchanges between the two countries have continued, and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, Dong said. He briefed the guests about the development of Shanghai and its role as the country’s leader in reform and innovation, and expressed his readiness to share all experiences and good practices. He said that the second edition of China International Import Expo is to be held later this year in Shanghai and welcomed North Macedonia to participate actively at the event, Xhaferi’s Cabinet said in a press release.

Xhaferi hoped that through this visit, the exchanges and cooperation between the local councils of the two nations at various levels and in multiple channels will be promoted to deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples. Acquainting the hosts with current developments on the domestic political scene as well as with the country’s foreign policy strategic commitments, Xhaferi expressed hopes that North Macedonia will join NATO by year-end and will get a date to launch EU accession talks by end of this month.

The interlocutors expressed confidence that good political relations would be a good basis for further boosting the economic relations, both at the bilateral level and within the process of cooperation between 16 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries and the People’s Republic of China.

Parliamentary delegation also visited by the Urban Planning Center of the city of Shanghai, which has a population of 24 million inhabitants, whereat the functioning of the local centres and the model of resolving urban problems were presented.
