The outcome of this evening’s meeting between Prime Minister and SDSM leader Zoran Zaev and VMRO-DPMNE president Hristijan Mickoski will determine the continuation of the committee and plenary sessions over the Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the dismissal of Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva, said Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi on Tuesday.

Xhaferi said the sessions could be scheduled as early as Wednesday if the leaders’ meeting produces an agreement, adding that prosecutor Janeva’s should be dismissed by September 15.

“Party leaders should be given the opportunity to find a mutually acceptable solution, which would then decide the session’s scheduling. The session on Janeva’s dismissal could be scheduled as early as tomorrow,” said Xhaferi.

After last week’s decision by the Parliament’s Committee on Election and Appointment Issues over Janeva’s dismissal, the Speaker sent a formal request to SDSM, VMRO-DPMNE, DUI and Alliance of Albanians for their written consent, and has thus far received feedback from DUI and AA.

If Zaev and Mickoski come to an agreement later this evening, the Committee on European Affairs would continue its session regarding the amendments to the Law on the PPO on Wednesday, followed by a plenary session of Parliament. MPs of both parties have voiced optimism that an agreement could be reached.
