Taravari angry at Zaev

The Ministry of Education and Science, on the basis of the reports from the surveillance carried out by the State Education Inspectorate, in order to enable the smooth operation in the area of ​​primary and secondary education, took away the competencies of the Mayor of Gostivar, Arben Taravari. According to Minister Renata Deskoska, although it was radical, it was still a necessary step.

“The procedure for stripping the mayor’s authority was a radical measure, but there was no choice. We pointed that out, but he did not respect it. The inspection pointed to the violations, for which there are solutions. We had to annul his decisions, and he did not implement them, “Deskoska said.

In formulating this decision of the MES, Renata Deskoska added that the withdrawal of the authority came after the inspections made by the State Inspectorate of Education showed that Taravari dismissed and appointed directors outside the legal procedures. For this reason, all the Taravari’s solutions for appointing and dismissing directors in the schools in Gostivar were stopped.
The Mayor of Gostivar, Arben Taravari strongly reacted to this decision. According to him, with this move, Zaev actually delegated his powers to DUI.

“Today Zaev took the credentials from the Municipality of Gostivar and gave it to the DUI. The same happened in 2010, but then it was Gruevski who did the same. Where is the difference between 2010 and 2018?! A mentality that does not think like us should be destroyed! Bravo, truly a society for all,” wrote the Mayor of Gostivar, Taravari.

According to Taravari’s claim that 100,000 residents are angry at Zaev because the municipal budget is blocked because of DUI’, the Prime Minister responded in an interview with “Prizma”.

“I am a pragmatic politician. In the Strumica budgets, I took them in consensus with the opposition in 90 percent of the cases. The mayor and members of the council must sit down and build strategies. The citizens will evaluate themselves, but it is probable that the municipality’s management provokes certain conditions for incompetence of the majority in the council to make decisions. You cannot call for consensus on certain issues, and change all the directors and set new ones only from VMRO-DPMNE and the Alliance for Albanians. If you call for consensus, then consult all of them and consensually hire new people. The budget is the most important document for each municipality and it is discussed,” Zaev said.
He says that nobody benefits from Gostivar’s budget. And if the Council does not adopt the budget, it is dissolved and a new one should be elected.

“We do not want new local council elections. They need to find a solution at the local level. I see the letter as bitterness, probably from the interruption of the cooperation between the Alliance and SDSM, which I hope is temporary. I do not share municipalities in what means cooperation and support. Mayors, just like myself, are persons who have temporarily received the honor and responsibility to manage the assets of citizens, “Zaev said.
