Stoltenberg and NAC to visit North Macedonia on Sunday

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and North Atlantic Council (NAC) will pay an official visit to the Republic of North Macedonia on June 2nd and 3rd.

During the visit, Stoltenberg and members of the North Atlantic Council plan to meet the country’s top officials. This is the first visit of Stoltenberg and senior NATO officials to North Macedonia since NATO allies signed Protocol on the accession of North Macedonia to NATO. Presently, the parliaments of 13 out of 29 member states of the Alliance ratified the Accession Protocol. Once the Protocol is ratified in the capitals of each of the 29 Allies, according to national procedures, the country will become a member of NATO.

The North Atlantic Council is the principal political decision-making body within NATO. It brings together high-level representatives of each member country to discuss policy or operational questions requiring collective decisions. In sum, it provides a forum for wide-ranging consultation between members on all issues affecting their peace and security.
