Sekerinska: Macedonia’s joining the progressive world is the true path to success

The Macedonian people’s uprising – October 11 symbolizes our ancient desire for freedom and justice, a country that will defend these values and a future that will guarantee them. On this day 77 years ago, such ambitions and desires seemed completely impossible. Our cities, villages, our region, our Europe at those moments experienced the most difficult days, doomed to violence, victims and hopelessness. Precisely in these difficult moments, the Macedonian national interests and our strategic orientation as a nation were built.

This has been said by Deputy PM and Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska addressing the central celebration held on National Uprising Day, October 11 in front of the memorial of the liberators of Skopje in the yard of the government’s building.

“The WWII fighters were all heroes, who understood and accepted the responsibility that brings freedom. Who understood and accepted that we are responsible and guilty and for the good we have not done. These heroes still remind us: freedom is not a gift, but a privilege,” Sekerinska said.

“Our response to the contemporary challenges is clear and illustrated in a strategic commitment that is clear to us and consensual since the beginning of our independence – Macedonia to become a member of NATO and the EU, built on the foundations of democracy, freedom and equality. We will accomplish this, as a duty to our ancestors, as an obligation to future generations,” Sekerinska highlighted.

She stressed that the government proposal for constitutional changes, which entered the parliamentary procedure, clearly denied all lies, manipulations and intimidations in the past period.

“We remain Macedonians who will make their Macedonian language the official language of the EU. Our citizens deserve a recognized, confirmed identity and a stronger international position. Just as they deserve European, legal, just state, before which every citizen will be equal, they deserve a state that will create opportunities for their children and young people,” Sekerinska said.

She said that now all the MPs regardless of their party affiliation have a historic duty and an obligation to translate their words into actions and to secure the way of Macedonia towards stability, security and economic prosperity.

Our people are European and deserve to live in a European way, Sekerinska said, adding that today Macedonia again makes the choice to join the progressive world, because it is our true path to success.

Besides, the government delegation including Deputy PM and Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska, FM Nikola Dimitrov and Justice Minister Renata Deskoska, also MPs, representatives of the President’s Cabinet, the diplomatic corps, the local self-governments and civic associations laid fresh flowers in front of the memorial of the liberators of Skopje.
