Sekerinska and Dimitrov to attend 2018 Munich Security Conference


Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska and Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov will participate at 2018 Munich Security Conference (MSC) which will take place on Feb.16-18 in Munich, Germany.

The conference will be attended by US Defence Secretary James Mattis, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, British PM Theresa May, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn.

The conference agenda for the MSC 2018 will focus in particular on the future role of the European Union as a global actor and its relations with Russia as well as the United States. In addition, the growing threat to the liberal international order, the numerous conflicts in the Middle East – especially the deteriorating relations between the Gulf States – and political developments in the Sahel region will be discussed. Moreover, arms control issues will be a point of emphasis, in particular the tensions over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Sekerinska and Dimitrov are scheduled to attend several panels on Trans-Atlantic security, cooperation in the EU and NATO and are set to hold bilateral meetings.

The Munich Security Conference is an annual international security policy conference that has taken place since 1963. The conference, which is focused on discussions on global security policies, brings together senior-decision makers from around the world, including heads-of-state, ministers, leading personalities of international and non-governmental organisations, as well as high ranking representatives of industry, media, academia, and civil society, to engage in an intensive debate on current and future security challenges.
