Reconciliation commission initiated by the independent MP group to be established Monday

Establishment of the reconciliation commission, initiated by the independent MP group of VMRO-DPMNE and Coalition For Better Macedonia, will be discussed at next week’s coordination meeting, agreed Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, Vice Speakers and whips on Monday.

The delay resulted from today’s absence of Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska from the independent MP group of VMRO-DPMNE and Coalition For Better Macedonia, due to visit of Austrian National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka.

Wolfgang Sobotka delivered an address before MPs.

“Macedonia has recently made decisive steps towards the European Union, first through the Bulgaria Friendship Treaty and then the name agreement with Greece. We see Macedonia on the road of transforming from a candidate-country to launching a tangible perspective in the EU accession talks by the end of 2019,” said Sobotka.

He added that the EU accession process provides clear conditions that need to be met.

“A credible accession perspective is required, but also credible efforts. I believe that Macedonia’s EU accession talks will begin in the summer of 2019, after the European Parliament elections in spring. I believe that chapters will be closed swiftly and EU must reward these steps,” said Sobotka.
