President Ivanov meets CoE Human Right Commissioner Muiznieks

President Gjorge Ivanov and Council of Europe (CoE) Human Rights Commissioner, Nils Muiznieks, shared opinions Thursday about ongoing reforms, rule of law and respect of human rights in Macedonia.

Macedonia has been nourishing the highest standards for protection of human and minority rights, Ivanov said at the meeting.

As a unitary and multi-ethnic state, Ivanov said, Macedonia is the best example of respecting the diversities in the region.

Referring to the bill on usage of languages, Ivanov reaffirmed his arguments for vetoing the legislation, the President’s Office said in a press release.

Macedonia, he said, remain committed to keep promoting the international standards for the human rights and cooperating with the CoE members in implementing the European Convention on Human Rights.
