PM Zaev welcomes SEC’s decisions calling them ‘moral act’

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said he welcomed the decision of the State Election Commission’s members to give back their monetary incentives and the move of a few members to step down, calling it ‘a moral act.’

“The members are exceptional professionals that have played a serious role in serious times and they had completed their tasks professionally. I know that the decision they made was legitimate, but most likely it was unethical and immoral. I welcome the step they all made – to give their cash bonuses back to the budget all the while accepting responsibility for their actions as a moral act, probably due to the public outcry,” Zaev told reporters on Monday.

At the same time, he said, they sent a serious message of ethical behavior following an uproar caused by ‘a lack of transparency in the process of reaching the decision and failure to inform the public.’

Asked to comment on the vacancy of the post of health minister, PM Zaev said a new minister would be appointed ‘in a matter of days’ alongside a new minister without portfolio and deputy education minister.
