PM Zaev: Strong opposition makes the government more responsible

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Sunday refused to comment on the announcement of VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski that he would step down as party president, but said that ‘a strong opposition would force the government to be more accountable.’

“It is a matter of the internal processes of the party and the VMRO-DPMNE members and its leadership should determine what’s best for the party,” Zaev said when asked for a comment on Gruevski’s announcement for resignation.

A strong opposition, he noted, will force the government to be more responsible, more transparent and more committed to the citizens.

Referring to the opposition’s intention not to endorse reforms envisaged by the Plan 3-6-9, PM Zaev said the opposition must be a constructive and critical factor in the reform process to improve Macedonia’s legislation.

According to him, there is no rule of law without reforms. “I hope we will allow judicial bodies to conduct transparent and unbiased processes,” noted Zaev.
