Pence discusses the name negotiations with Tsipras over the phone

US Vice President Mike Pence and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had a phone conversation to discuss the negotiations aimed at settling the issue involving Macedonia’s name, according to the White House.

“The Vice President encouraged Prime Minister Tsipras to continue working with Prime Minister Zaev on a mutually-acceptable agreement. Resolution of this issue would promote stability and peace in the region,” stated the White House statement.

Athens and Skopje have a ‘historic opportunity’ to settle the decades-old dispute and ‘time is of the essence,’ concurred Pence and Tsipras.
