Parliament to debate Veljanoski’s immunity tonight at 9pm

The North Macedonian Parliament scheduled a session Sunday at 9 pm to debate on whether MP Trajko Veljanoski should be stripped of his parliamentary immunity.

The session comes following a fierce two-day debate of the Committee on Rules of Procedure and Mandatory-Immunity Issues, which could not honor the request of Skopje’s Criminal Court to lift Veljanoski’s immunity.

After four members of the Committee voted in favor, and four against, chairman Pavle Bogoevski said Parliament would settle the outcome during a plenary session.

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the Criminal Court had summoned Veljanoski, together with former ministers Mile Janakieski and Spiro Ristovski, under suspicion of organizing the April 27 storming of Parliament.

Janakieski and Ristovski were detained, while Veljanoski avoided arrest on account of his parliamentary immunity.
