Parliament adopts the Prespa Agreement with 81 votes

With 81 votes in favour, the Macedonian Parliament adopted the amendments to four articles of the Constitution and thus accepted the name agreement with Greece. Once the parliament in Athens ratifies the process, the country’s new name will be the Republic of North Macedonia, and there will be other interventions in the Constitution. In return, Macedonia will receive an invitation for membership in NATO this year, and will come closer to the European Union. Macedonia solved the problem that hindered the country’s progress for two and a half decades, but the compromise solution with Greece left dissatisfaction with the majority of the citizens, who nevertheless accepted the agreement as an investment in the country’s future.

VMRO-DPMNE MP Panco Minov also voted ‘in favour’. All other lawmakers of VMRO-DPMNE and the coalition did not attend the session and respected the party’s position.
