Osmani: Macedonia is irreversibly moving towards full EU membership

Macedonia is irreversibly moving towards EU full-fledged membership and there is no way back, said Vice Premier for European Affairs Bujar Osmani at a joint press conference with Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn in Brussels on Friday.

Vice Premier Osmani is heading the Macedonian delegation that launched the explanatory screening process on Thursday.

“Macedonia is writing history these couple of days. This is a moment we have been waiting and preparing for a long time, involving all prior governments. Let me say that we have done it. Macedonia is irreversibly moving towards full-fledged EU membership and there is no way back,” said Osmani.

Commissioner Hahn voiced satisfaction from the reform process, adding however that much remains to be done.

According to him, there are no specific dates for the reforms’ completion, especially in the judiciary field.

“There are no specific dates, but I am satisfied from the process implemented thus far. There is a lot of work to be done in the coming year. This includes strong commitment to deliver results and that is why we do not want to lose time,” noted Hahn.
