New protest for “Macedonia” set for July 8

“Thousands of citizens across Greece have stated that Macedonia is Greek”, “24 cities, one vote”, “Thousands of citizens on the streets, protested for Macedonia”, “The protests for Macedonia ended peacefully and massively”, “24 cities in the rhythm of protests for the Skopje issue,” are part of Greek media coverage of protests across Greece that “defended the Greek character of Macedonia”.

The media generally assessed the protests positively, both in terms of the masses and the messages that were sent, and emphasize the fact that the rallies ended peacefully and without party markings, and the citizens and demonstrations were supported by opposition politicians, from the local self-government in cities, but also by metropolitans and clerics.

Organizers, for their part, are satisfied with the turnout. Oton Iakovidis of the “Committee for the Fight for the Greek Character of Macedonia” told Greek television “Skai” that it turned out that the people were coordinated, ready, and demanding that their position be respected.

– The first major protests in Thessaloniki and Athens showed the large number of citizens who do not accept the handover of the name Macedonia to the neighboring country, while in yesterday’s second phase, the goal was not to show the scope, but to show that the people are fully coordinated based on the resolutions adopted at the first protests,” says Iakovidis, adding that the people not only disagree about giving the name to their neighbors, but rather demanding a referendum in Greece.

According to some Greek media, a new protest in Athens is set for July 8, behind which is an organization called the “Commission for the Protection of the Vlach Greeks’ Rights in Skopje and Protection of the Greek Character of Macedonia”.
