NATO chief Stoltenberg calls for flexibility in name talks

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has called for flexibility in the negotiations over the name of Macedonia.

According to him, NATO in 2008 at the Bucharest Summit had decided to invite Macedonia to join the Alliance as soon as Skopje solved the name issue in a mutually acceptable manner. It was impossible to reach a settlement until now, Stoltenberg said on Thursday.

“I hope current initiatives would pave the way for a solution. The new government in Skopje is demonstrating readiness for flexibility. I would like to be very careful in the coming period over the possibility of a consensus being reached, because for many years the issue remains open. I urge everyone to be flexible,” the NATO head noted.
