MP Sela’s attackers to stand trial on Jan. 26

Skopje, 11 January 2018 – A court in Skopje has set a date for a trial against the attackers of MP Zijadin Sela on charges of attempted murder.

The trial is scheduled on January 26 at the Criminal Court in Skopje, court sources told MIA on Thursday.

Sela, leader of the Alliance for Albanians party, suffered severe injuries after being attacked during the violent events in Parliament on 27 April 2017.

Ten men are charged with attempted murder of MP Sela.

Several assailants were identified by the public after the Interior Ministry on its website posted screenshots of footage of the storming of Parliament last year.

The trial of Sela’s attacker will be the third case stemming from last year’s events in Parliament.

Nine people were given probation sentences for participating in a mob that obstructed law-enforcement officials. The attacker of incumbent Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska was sentenced to four years in prison after standing trial.
