Mogherini: I hope for a positive decision for negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania

High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini congratulated North Macedonia on the anniversary of the Prespa Agreement and urged EU member countries to greenlight the start of talks with North Macedonia and Albania.

“Today’s the first anniversary of signing the Prespa Agreement between North Macedonia and Greece,” Mogherini said. “We should recall the power of courage and leadership, as well as the important steps taken in the Balkans.

“I hope the member countries will remember and recognize these steps, especially in the days ahead when an important decision needs to be made on opening negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia, a decision that needs to be made as soon as possible.”

Mogherini is chairing the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting held in Luxembourg, which, among other things, is to discuss starting negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia.
