Merkel, Stoltenberg and Kurz this week in Skopje

On the eve of the referendum scheduled for September 30th, the officials of Germany and Austria, Angela Merkel and Sebastian Kurz, as well as the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, are coming to Skopje.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev announced their arrival last night, stressing that the fact that three world leaders visiting Skopje this week is another positive signal, recognition, and support for Macedonia.

– Stoltenberg arrives on Wednesday evening, for the second time in six months, on Friday Austrian Chancellor Kurtz, and on Saturday Merkel. The arrival of the three world statesmen is a recognition for Macedonia, a positive signal. They give us a hand to go ahead, Zaev pointed out at the tribune in Berovo.

According to him, the opposition is aware that this is the moment for the EU and NATO, the moment when all, as he stressed, should be together and unite for a European Macedonia. Zaev stressed that he is convinced that Macedonian citizens will recognize and will not miss the historical opportunity that will secure the future of the country and the next generations.

Merkel on Saturday comes to Skopje, as her spokesman Steffen Seibert announced, first-hand, to form an impression of the upcoming referendum.

“We are still working on the program, but I can tell you that the Chancellor will meet with FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev,” Seibert said, adding that the focus of the meeting will be “regional developments, bilateral topics”, and that Merkel “certainly wants on the spot to form an impression ahead of the referendum on the name issue of the country, which will be held at the end of the month. “

The EU foreign policy and security chief, Federica Mogherini, also sent a message of encouragement last night. He said that Macedonia should take advantage of the opportunities offered and start accession negotiations with the EU.
