Macedonia’s accession protocol to NATO to be discussed in Athens today


Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Greek Parliament is to begin debate “the ratification of protocol for the Republic of North Macedonia’s accession to NATO” on Thursday at 13h. Greek MPs will continue the debate on the accession protocol in a plenary session and with a vote on Friday.

The draft law of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, titled “Ratification of the Protocol for Accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to NATO” was submitted to the Greek Parliament on Wednesday. It was signed by Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos, Defense Minister Evangelos Apostolakis and Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos.

151 votes are required for passing the protocol, and all lawmakers who voted for the ratification of the Prespa Agreement are expected to support NATO membership.
