Law on languages enters into force


The law on the use of Albanian language along with the constitutional amendments regarding the country’s new name have been published today in the Official Gazette.

The law on languages has been signed by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi who has sent the law for publication without the signature of president Gjorge Ivanov.

With the publication in the official bulletin, the Albanian language becomes the second official language in Macedonia. The voting of this law sparked many political debates, because the opposition led by VMRO-DPMNE was against. Meanwhile, the government declared that the law takes care of the rights of the second biggest community in the country.
