Lavrov: Russia supports the name agreement

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on a joint press conference alongside his Greek counterpart in Moscow said he hoped that the deal over the new name of Macedonia would be in the interest of Athens and Skopje and that it would be endorsed by the citizens of the two countries.

“We have always said that we are in favor of finding a solution to this issue, without external interference and without some artificial conditions. We have been saying that we will support a solution that is in the interest of both Greece and Macedonia after securing overwhelming public support. I hope the deal reached yesterday is exactly that, Minister Lavrov said.
