Israeli forces kill at least 52 Palestinians in Gaza protests

At least 52 Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli troops and dozens of others have been wounded as thousands of demonstrators gathered at the Gaza border ahead of the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

At the embassy inauguration ceremony, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Trump for “having the courage to keep your promises”.

“What a glorious day for Israel,” Netanyahu said in a speech. “We are in Jerusalem and we are here to stay.”
President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, was among US officials attending the opening ceremony.

The Palestinian Authority accused Israel of carrying out “a terrible massacre” and called for “an immediate international intervention” to stop the killing. Turkey said the US also bore responsibility for the bloodshed.
