Forum for Democratic Macedonia voices support for name dispute settlement

The Forum for Democratic Macedonia (FDM) welcomed Thursday the initiative for settling the name issue – the main obstacle to Macedonia’s integration with the European Union and NATO.

Today’s visit of UN name mediator Matthew Nimetz to Macedonia, as well as the recent meeting of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras in Davos, give strong impetus for constructive talks that should lead to dignified, mutually acceptable solution to this long-standing matter, FDM said in a press release.

FDM will support the outcome for which Macedonia’s government, citizens and all participants in the (name) negotiations will decide to be a solution to the issue. The dispute’s settlement will eliminate the most serious obstacle to Macedonia’s EU, NATO membership, create possibilities for the country’s economic prosperity and offer guarantees for its stability and survival, the press release reads.

FDM, a community of emigrants from the Republic of Macedonia and their descendants from all over the world, also calls on the government to resume the reforms that will really turn the country into ‘one society for all’, where the law will rule and institutions will be in service of citizens.
