FM Dimitrov: Macedonia and Bulgaria to work together on better future

Macedonia and Bulgaria cannot alter the history, but may work together on better future, Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov says in an interview with the Bulgarian national BNT1.

Historians should discuss about history, while the work of the political leadership is related to the present and future, Dimitrov says.

He considers that the friendship treaty between Macedonia and Bulgaria marks a progress in the bilateral relations.

‘It is time to show Europe that we are able to resolve problems as Europeans, to open our doors and advance our ties,’ Dimitrov says.

In regard to the dispute with Greece, Dimitrov says Macedonia has been everything in its power to resolve the matter.

‘It’s not an e simple solution, the problem is as old as our independence. Nonetheless, after the crisis Macedonians believe there is an opportunity (for settlement),’ Dimitrov says. He extends gratitude to Bulgaria for bringing Europe back to the Balkan region.

At the moment the process for settling the name dispute is marked with a battle between the forces of the future and past, Dimitrov tells BNT1.
