Ex-Greek ambassador Kaklikis – moderate optimist for name solution

Moderate optimism for finding a solution to the name issue has been expressed by the former Greek ambassador to Macedonia, George Kaklikis.

Speaking to CNN.gr, he referred to his tenure as ambassador to Macedonia, especially the year 2001 when Macedonia and Greece had been very close to reaching a solution after the Greek government had initiated talks in Skopje, MIA reported from Athens.

“As the political world overwhelmingly accepted one of the three names proposed Greece, in Slavic form both for outside and inside the country, ultimately the then president of the country in Skopje had refused to go on fearing that the wishes of his people wouldn’t be met. If you are asking me if I’m optimistic, I would tell you that I am a moderate optimist,” the ex-ambassador told CNN.gr.
