EP officials send messages of support for a positive EU decision in October


Messages of support that North Macedonia deserves and should get a positive EU decision in October were voiced at Tuesday’s meetings of Prime MinisterZoran Zaev with MEPs Dimitris Papadimoulis and Guy Verhofstadt, and former European Parliament President Martin Schulz.

At he meeting with MEP Papadimoulis, who also serves as EP’s Vice-President, the two officials concluded that North Macedonia had made huge efforts to solve the open issues with the neighbors and implement reforms at home. “It was concluded that our country year by year is improving in the implementation of reforms and the progress should be even more visible for Europe,” said the government in a press release.

Guy Verhofstadt, the former Prime Minister of Belgium, conveyed a strong support from the new EP group of liberals, which recommends opening of negotiations between the EU and the country. “Such an outcome from the European Council in October will further motivate the region,” reads the press release.

Zaev and Schulz underscored the importance of a positive decision being reached in October for North Macedonia’s European perspective.

It was concluded that Europe has to respond to the sincere policies of dialogue that produced solutions to major issues, such as the name issue with Greece, because it’s also a positive message for the entire region.
