Dimitrov-Kotzias meeting in Thessaloniki this week

The frequent contacts between the heads of diplomacy of Macedonia and Greece, Nikola Dimitrov and Nikos Kotzias, in the last period, continue this week in Thessaloniki. Both on Thursday and Friday will participate in the quadrilateral forum featuring their colleagues from Bulgaria and Albania.

The previous Dimitrov-Kotzias meeting was last week in Vienna on the new round of negotiations on the name issue, but after the meeting, the ministers did not comment. The statement was given only by mediator Matthew Nimetz, who said that both sides remain committed to solving the problem, without presenting details of the talks.

The Greek media reported that the “difficult issues” , ie the scope of the use of the name, remain, and Athens’ request to change the Macedonian constitution would be discussed. Kotzias said that “the other party must understand that it is necessary to agree on erga omnes” which will enable a comprehensive agreement to be reached.
