Court rejects Nikola Gruevski’s last appeal

The Criminal Council of the Organized Crime and Corruption Department within Basic Court Skopje 1 has rejected Friday the appeals of Nikola Gruevski and his defense lawyers, thus confirming the judge’s verdict, under which the former PM and leader of the VMRO-DPMNE party should report to the prison in Skopje to serve a two-year sentence.

In response to media interest, the Court Council issued a press release, saying that it has rejected the appeals and confirmed the judge’s verdict for the ‘Tank’ case.

Gruevski was sentenced in May to two years in prison for unlawfully influencing Interior Ministry officials over the purchase of a luxury vehicle at an estimated cost of EUR 600,000.

He appealed the decision and requested that the prison sentence be deferred, citing parliamentary duties.
