45 percent of Greeks have understanding for compound name including term ‘Macedonia’


Forty-five percent of Greeks have an understanding for the perspective of a compound name including term ‘Macedonia’, show results of a survey of agency Prorata released by newspaper “Ethnos”.

In the survey, 23 percent said the perspective of recognizing FYROM with a compound name including term Macedonia causes anger, 14 percent responded they are ashamed of being Greeks, 13 percent are indifferent, while five percent did not answer.

Asked which countries they consider as hostile, 87 percent of respondents said Turkey, followed by Albania (47%) and Macedonia (45%).

Sixty-nine percent believe Macedonia is not a threat for Greece’s territorial integrity, while 21 percent say the opposite.

Fifty-seven percent of respondents believe Macedonia’s EU integration would improve relations with Greece, while only five percent say the name issue is the most important problem in the country’s foreign policy.
