Јean Monnet Dialogue: Political leaders united in Parliament’s lead of Euro-Atlantic integration

Working group comprised of representatives of political parties will be established in the Parliament towards supporting the implementation of the reform agenda and the next steps in the Jean Monnet process.

During the first two-day informal and open dialogue, political parties once again confirmed the consensus of working together so that the country makes progress towards EU accession and integrate in Euro-Atlantic structures, the Parliament said in a press release.

In order to accelerate the process, political parties have made a commitment in giving the Parliament the most efficient role through the use of its democratic legitimacy, its supervisory and legislative power, as well as series of reforms related to the new Code of Ethics and urgent amendments to the Rules of Procedures.

Members of European Parliament Ivo Vajgl, Eduard Kukan and Knut Fleckenstein highlighted that political dialogue is the essence of every democratic process, voicing satisfaction from the interest and involvement of all political stakeholders.

“EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn and presidents of the largest European political parties – the European People’s Party and the Party of European Socialists – also extended messages of support,” reads the press release.

The MEPs reiterated that the reform agenda is fully supported by the European Parliament, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Joint Parliament Committee.

“The Jean Monnet Dialogue contributes to supporting Macedonia in the country’s next steps towards EU membership, following the unconditional recommendation by the European Commission and in light of the European Council decision,” says the Parliament.
